Gilbert Browne

Gilbert Browne (born 1954) is a well-known printmaker mainly of landscape subjects. He was born in Ayrshire, Scotland and studied art at Leeds Polytechnic where he focused on printmaking. In 1976 he entered Chelsea School of Art for a degree course in Autographics Fine Art Printing and he later joined Clarendon Graphic as a master printer in their studio. He first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1976 showing an etching with aquatint and drypoint titled ‘Two Directions’ and he has exhibited there several times. His etched work is usually issued in limited editions of between 200 and 350 prints and he is especially adept in capturing the effects of water in his river, lake, canal and coastal views.
