Joseph Fereday

Joseph Fereday, an artist proficient in oil and acrylic mediums, transitioned predominantly to etching and engraving after 1976. Born in Dudley, Worcestershire, he pursued his artistic education at Wolverhampton and Birmingham Colleges of Art, as well as the Slade School of Fine Art from 1946 to 1948. Fereday's significant contributions led to his election as a fellow of the RE (Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers) in 1986, following his earlier recognition as an associate in 1979. He shared his artistic expertise as a lecturer at Portsmouth College of Art and Design from 1948 to 1980. Notably, from 1976 to 1978, Fereday organized two summer schools in printmaking at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. He actively participated in exhibitions in Michigan, showcasing his works at Hope College and Pravna Gallery in Saugatuck. His art was also featured in exhibitions at the Royal Academy (RA), Redfern in Piccadilly, Leicester Galleries, and various galleries across English provinces.
Fereday's solo exhibitions included presentations at Dudley Art Gallery, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Boldrewood Gallery at Southampton University, Woodstock Gallery, and international venues. His versatile artistic journey left a lasting impact on the world of printmaking and the art community at large.
