Stanley Jones MBE was a highly influential English printmaker renowned for his expertise in lithography. His journey in printmaking began early and was significantly shaped by his studies at the Slade School of Fine Art and his time at Atelier 17 in Paris, where he apprenticed with notable artists. He further honed his skills at Patris Gerard’s atelier in Montparnasse.
In 1958, Jones established the Curwen Studio, which became a pivotal institution in the printmaking world. Under his leadership, the studio produced original prints for many distinguished artists, including Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, David Hockney, and Paula Rego. His efforts were instrumental in expanding and popularising the medium of lithography, making it accessible to a broader range of artists and collectors.
